About the Energy Conservation Cell

The Energy Conservation Cell in the institution was established in 2018 under the guidance of Anand College of Education (Self-Financed Society). The cell works to fulfil specific objectives necessary to reduce the consumption of power by using energy-saving measures and strategies by involving faculty and
students in these practices.

Objectives

  1. To promote awareness to increase and encourage minimization of energy wastage
  2. To promote realistic and comprehensive reduction of energy to save usage cost
  3. To improve energy efficiency through consistent, safe and secure methods
  4. To ensure safe handling and minimize wastage by facilitating repair and reuse
  5. To provide clearly defined roles and responsibilities to identify and coordinate activities
  6. To decrease acceptable indoor air quality and natural light facility

First Meeting – April 2018

The first meeting of the Energy Conservation Cell was held in April 2018 in the office of the undersigned.

Agenda

  1. Orientation to encourage minimization of energy wastage in the campus
  2. Assigning duties and responsibilities to identify and coordinate energy conservation activities

Key Proceedings

  • Discussion on energy consumption pattern of the college
  • Analysis of electricity generation through solar electricity generation unit
  • Identification of potential areas for energy cost saving

Actions Taken

  1. Sensitization of staff and students to turn off lights and fans when not in use
  2. Organization of extension lectures to promote awareness about energy conservation
  3. Unnecessary use of air conditioners and other electrical appliances was checked
  4. Modern cost-effective LED lights were installed in place of conventional bulbs
  5. Discipline committee ensured duties were properly administered

Second Meeting – July 2019

Agenda

  1. Ensure safe handling and minimize wastage of energy
  2. Assign clearly defined roles to ensure indoor air quality and natural light facility

Actions Taken

  • Organization of talks by faculty members to promote awareness
  • Reminders through notices and WhatsApp groups to avoid unnecessary use of appliances
  • Energy conservation posters displayed at various points in the campus
  • Replacement of CRT monitors with low-power LCD monitors

  1. Conducted Green Audit
  2. Monitoring of energy needs with backup power supply system
  3. Replacement of conventional lighting with cost-effective LED lights
  4. Monitoring electricity bills for efficient utilization of solar power plant
  5. Installation of floor-wise modular switches
  6. Preference to outdoor games and natural light usage
  7. Continuous review and update of approved energy policy

Recent Initiatives

  • Solar panels installed on the roof of the college building
  • Students instructed on proper utilization of electronic devices
  • Reduction of e-waste through reuse, repair, and recycling
  • Use of star-labelled energy efficient equipment

About the Waste Management Cell

The Waste Management Cell of the institution was established in 2022 with the objective of providing hygienic, efficient, and economic activities to manage solid waste without polluting the atmosphere, soil, and water systems. The cell works to fulfil the motto of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle.

Objectives

  1. To ensure waste management is performed in accordance with all waste rules
  2. To minimize waste generation at source and facilitate repair, reuse, and recycling
  3. To ensure disposal of waste in a cost-effective manner
  4. To provide clearly defined roles and responsibilities for waste management activities
  5. To ensure safe handling and storage of waste in the college
  6. To promote a holistic approach to waste management on campus
  7. To expand recycling opportunities and transform waste into value-added products
  8. To provide appropriate training for staff, students, and stakeholders

  • Instructions given for placement of dustbins in classrooms, laboratories, restrooms, and canteen
  • Segregation of waste at source was emphasized
  • Waste such as paper, newspapers, and workshop scrap to be sent for recycling

  1. Implemented applicable regulations, policies, and standards of waste management
  2. E-waste such as computers and peripherals are upgraded regularly to avoid wastage
  3. Discipline committee monitored cleanliness of the campus
